Soft tissue tumors: Elastofibroma
نویسنده
چکیده
The etiology of this lesion remains unclear. It seems likely that the pseudotumor mass is the product of abnormal elastogenesis rather than of degeneration of preformed fibers. It has been suggested that repeated trauma by mechanical friction of the scapula against the ribs may induce the tumorlike process, since there is an increased prevalence in persons having a history of hard manual labor. A family history of the lesion is reported in up to onethird of cases, suggesting that its origin may be influenced genetically.

Elastofibroma dorsi: three cases of personal experience.
Elastofibroma dorsi is a rare, slow growing, soft tissue lesion, which occurs mainly in elderly women, typical located in the infrascapular region. This lesion is characterized by a poorly defined solid mass of fibro-elastic and fatty tissue, enlarging into intermuscular spaces. Elastofibroma may simulate an aggressive behaviour, and differential diagnosis with malignant tumors is sometimes dif...
متن کاملElastofibroma dorsi: case report and review of the literature
Elastofibroma dorsi (ED) is an uncommon benign soft tissue tumor with an uncertain pathogenesis. It mostly occurs in the infrascapular region of elderly people with a female predominance. Typically bilateral, ED can also be unilateral. While many patients remain asymptomatic, ED can be responsible of a periscapular arch source of ache. The diagnosis of ED is set on magnetic resonance imaging, a...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance imaging of benign soft tissue neoplasms in adults.
This article reviews a spectrum of benign soft tissue tumors found in adults. Rather than presenting a complete review, the focus of this article is on benign tumors for which the diagnosis may be confidently made or strongly suggested on the basis of imaging. Diagnoses presented include nodular fasciitis, superficial and deep fibromatosis, elastofibroma, lipomatous lesions, giant cell tumor of...
متن کاملElastofibroma of the Face: A Case Report
Elastofibroma is a rare neoplasm that characteristically occurs in subscapular area in response to microtrauma. There are some reports of this tumor in other sites of the body but, up till now, there has been no report of elastofibroma in the face. A 20-year-old man presented with a slow growing painless mass in the face without any history of trauma. Histopathologic examination revealed a soft...
متن کاملElastofibroma dorsi – differential diagnosis in chest wall tumours
BACKGROUND Elastofibromas are benign soft tissue tumours mostly of the infrascapular region between the thoracic wall, the serratus anterior and the latissimus dorsi muscle with a prevalence of up to 24% in the elderly. The pathogenesis of the lesion is still unclear, but repetitive microtrauma by friction between the scapula and the thoracic wall may cause the reactive hyperproliferation of fi...
